Improve software performance and availability thanks to CAPSiDE

07-02-2012
Application consultancy

CAPSiDE gets in a few hours to audit and optimize an internal application that manages on real-time the distribution routes, deliveries and problems or incidents derived from the distribution process. The application's bottlenecks quickly consumed all machine resources.

The Client

  • Te client's company is leading the Spanish market of bread and bakery, and occupies the second place in the Spanish cookies market.
  • The company's distribution network has over 3.500 delivery units in Spain controlling nearly 2.800 daily routes without interruption to more than 128.000 stores.

The Challenge

  • Unblock the step of moving the application to production environment by detecting and removing all performance bottlenecks.
  • Problems detection (diagnosis) on the third party application that runs on an unknown platform..
  • Carry on a really fast and extremely executive consulting in order to detect the problems with urgency.

Problems

  • The client's company was about to put the application on production stage to manage in real-time all its delivery units routes, orders and incidents of the delivery process.
  • The company internally had demonstrated that the application was consuming too many physical machine resources with only a few concurrent connections.
  • Application developers were unable to improve performance.

What CAPSiDE did...

  • Detailed analytics of the application structures and the used layers (Apache/Tomcat/Oracle).
  • Separate testing of all layers in order to isolate the root of the problem.
  • Fine tunings proposal of the used technologies, thereby eliminating the bottlenecks that were consuming the platform resources.

Results and benefits for the client

  • In 4 hours, CAPSiDE accomplished the isolation of the concurrency problem, solved it and demonstrated that the application was actually able to escalate.
  • During the same audit process, the Apache and Tomcat configurations were also optimized according to the application needs.
  • Other application problems were detected and reported to the developers.
  • The application was finally pushed to production environment.
